Solvent Selection & Reconstitution
- Bacteriostatic vs. Sterile Water: Choosing the correct solvent depends on your experimental timeline. Bacteriostatic water ($0.9\%$ benzyl alcohol) prevents microbial growth in multi-use vials, whereas sterile $0.9\%$ saline or WFI (Water for Injection) is preferred for immediate, single-assay evaluations.
- Gentle Dissolution Technique: Avoid vigorous shaking or vortexing, which can shearing-stress fragile peptide bonds. Gently swirl the vial or allow the solvent to run slowly down the inner glass wall to dissolve the lyophilized cake naturally.
- Solubility & pH Adjustments: Hydrophobic or basic peptides may require mild acetic acid or DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide) adjustment prior to final dilution. Always consult compound-specific solubility profiles before handling.
Storage & Stability
Once dissolved, liquid peptide solutions become significantly more susceptible to hydrolytic degradation.
